I suspect that Moneydance for the iPhone will be every bit as reliable once it is changed to manual synchronizing. I have two other apps, SplashID and DocsToGo, that use manual synchronizing and they have never failed me. This is very frustrating! I recommend the developers give up on the whole 'automatic' idea. Other times, I have to re-start the app over and over and over again before synchronization occurs. My iPhone is supposed to automatically synchronize with my Mac, but it doesn't. Well done! However, the synchronizing feature leaves much to be desired. Clearly, the developers spent a lot of effort toward getting the user interface right. In fact, it is as easy to enter transactions on my iPhone as it is on my Mac. The data entry portion of this app is flawless. With it, I can easily enter transactions on the go and later synchronize them with my Mac-based Moneydance.

I've been using it for months now and it is simply the best personal financial software for the Mac. I'll start by saying how much I love Moneydance. However, it is important that your Dropbox folder is in its default location on your desktop (i.e., in your Home folder on a Mac) otherwise syncing will not work correctly.This was the 'missing link' for me and makes Moneydance the premier financial application for the Mac and IOS devices. Using Dropbox to accomplish this was a smart move - Dropbox syncing just works. Even if you are not online at the time of entering a new or updated transaction, as soon as you are back online, the app syncs any changes across all your installed devices. The earlier network syncing extension was problematic to say the least and often required multiple restarts of both the desktop and IOS versions of Moneydance to get syncing to work correctly.With the current update, syncing works seamlessly and is instantaneous if you are connected to the Internet. I have filed a support ticket requested this function be added to future versions.Īs previously mentioned, this update has been a long time coming to allow seamless syncing of the Moneydance data file on your desktop with your IOS devices. One improvement I would like (which has nothing to do with the working of the App as currently designed), is the ability to use 'Tags' when entering data. I have used the App now for three (+) weeks and have not had a single issue with entering purchases or payments. Yes, the App does close after sync'ing, which it is designed to do because you already have the Moneydance Desktop version open - which is required in order to sync. I set it up to work with an iPhone and iPad, and both have worked as expected. IF you set up the sync as instructed, the sync works every time. Please figure out the problem(s) and fix it/them. The entire purpose of the mobile app is to be able to enter transactions on the go, and then have the transactions appear in both the desktop and other mobile device(s). I am still using the same sync method as I have used for the past 10+ years (Dropbox), and never had issues like I am currently experiencing. During the past month to 6 weeks, the app (both iPhone and iPad) has started locking up while entering transactions failing to sync, or taking a long time to sync and now opens to the first account in the list instead of the last account used. Not sure exactly what or why someone made changes to the sync function, but the changes need to be reversed and put back to the way it previously was. Review Up-Date: Previously I rated this app a “5”, but not anymore. And lastly, the Mac app needs to be available in the Mac App store if the developers want to sell more copies. Also, the Mac app needs customizable investment screens like Quicken so I can view quotes, hi's and low's, dividend yield, annualized return, etc.

If Quicken could do it, they should be able to do it.

It needs to be able to download transactions from other institutions - like Capital One VISA. I acquired the app to be able to put receipts in on the fly and sync when I get home.

The desktop program is a great replacement for Quicken if you're moving from Windows to Mac. To get the fifth star, I'd like my investment accounts to carry over into this app. I usually wait until the stock quotes update before activating the phone app because it syncs so quickly, I don't want to miss it and wonder if it actually happened. All you need to do is open MoneyDance on your Mac and then open the iPhone app.

But if you watch the bottom of the MoneyDance Mac Window, it will eventually sync if you wait long enough (usually less than a minute). Sometimes it syncs, sometimes it doesn't.
